The body has the ability to heal itself when it is supported nutritionally.
Using herbal remedies for therapeutic purposes is a great way to get the body
back in balance. This is described in the ABC+D Approach to Health. Herbs are
simply food with higher concentrations of nutrients. The healing compounds
found in herbs and plants are called phyto-nutrients. Plant based chemicals are
called phyto-chemicals. Phyto-nutrients have many different properties that work
in synergy together to initiate healing in the body. Some phyto-nutrients help to
heal various types of tissues in the body, while other phyto-nutrients help the
body to detoxify itself through the organs of elimination such as the colon, the
kidneys and the skin.
By supporting the body nutritionally, we are taking the load off the immune
system. This is because many phyto-nutrients act as antioxidants, therefore they
can help to neutralize and destroy “Free Radicals” so that the immune system
doesn’t have to. This leaves the immune system to do other “jobs” like
destroying “opportunist” pathogenic micro-organisms. When we eat a diet high in
nutrients, exercise and train ourselves to have a more positive attitude, we are
helping our immune system to do what it is designed to do, which is to “destroy
anything that is not part of us”.
We are bombarded with chemicals from our food and the environment. Examples
are: food additives, food dyes, hormones in meat, pesticides, air fresheners,
cleaning products, pollution and chlorine and/or fluorine in our water supply.
When we include highly concentrated nutrients such as herbs in our diet, we are
helping our body to detoxify itself of all the chemicals it is exposed to.
All food that is high in nutrients helps to support and enhance the ability of
body to heal itself.
