Immune System


Introduction:

  • The Immune system is composed of the lymphatics, lymph nodes, thymus
    and white blood cells
  • The friendly (normal) flora of the colon are part of the immune system
    since they protect the bowel against yeast infections
  • At it’s most basic level, the immune system enables the body to recognize
    what belongs in the body and what does not and remove what shouldn’t be
    present
  • Modern research has demonstrated that a person’s attitude impacts the
    immune system, as does good nutrition
  • Fatigue and stress may have a vast effect on this system.
  • Antibiotics may kill the normal flora and therefore probiotics should be
    taken after a course of antibiotics
  • Although antioxidants are not part of the immune system, ingestion of foods
    with antioxidants such as vitamins A, C, E and the mineral  selenium have a
    profound effect on the body’s ability to protect against oxidative damage.  
  • Concerns with the immune system are infection (bacteria, virus, fungus),
    autoimmune disorders, oxidative stress, cancer, lymphatic congestion,
