Intestinal System

Introduction:

  • Small intestine, large intestine (colon) and rectum make up the intestinal
    system
  • Main functions are to break down and absorb nutrients, first line of defense
against pathogens (such as bacteria, viruses, fungus) and chemical irritation.
  • Digestive system dysfunction is linked with most chronic and degenerative
    diseases
  • Strong emotions and responses to stress are well known triggers of intestinal
    problems
  • Nutrients cannot be properly processed or absorbed when the small intestine
is inflamed.  This can result in colitis, Crohns, celiac disease, and ulcerative
    colitis.
  • Inflammation and swelling in the intestines may lead to leaky gut syndrome,
which occurs when there is an increased absorption of toxic materials into the
    lymph and blood stream
  • Antibiotics, food allergies, microorganisms, drugs and other chemicals can all
    cause leaky gut syndrome.
  • Other concerns include constipation, diarrhea, maintaining regularity, nervous
irritability, effect of antibiotics on the normal bacterial flora.

Lifestyle Suggestions to support the Intestinal System:
  • Eat high fiber fruits and vegetables and whole grains.
  • Be a poop detective - analyze your stool
  • Drink 6-8 cups of purified water daily.  To make your own purified water
  • Avoid foods made with white flour and/or sugar.  Click here for a list of
    foods containing gluten.
  • Eat yogurt and other natural fermented foods.
  • Avoid frequent use of stimulant laxatives.
  • Engage in moderate regular exercise such as walking or bicycling.
  • Learn to handle stress. If stress is a problem, try to reduce the stressors in
your life, consider learning relaxation techniques, and/or take the nutritional
    stress supplement Stress Formula.
  • Avoid antibiotics and other drugs that harm the body's friendly flora.
  • Periodically Cleanse the Colon: If you eat meat and/or dairy products, I
recommend a colon cleanse four times a year (using the season changes as
reminders.) If you eat no meat or dairy products then cleanse the colon
twice a year (in the Spring and again in the Fall.) Three cleanse programs
you may alternate with are BOD-E  KLENZ, TIAO HE PAK &
CANDIDA CLEAR  However, I recommend that once a year you should
cleanse with a parasite cleanse called Para Pak.
